Morgan House
澳门网站开户送38Morgan House was named after the British automobile brand, the Morgan Motor Company. An independent family-run automobile company established in Malvern, UK, it is the oldest privately owned automobile company in the UK. Morgan house was established at MCQ in 2014.
Ms Byrne is the current Head of House, and Mrs Jones is the current Deputy Head - Ms Byrne came to MCQ from Ireland, with 10 years teaching experience; Mrs Jones is from England with 25 years teaching experience. They work hard together to ensure that Morgan house remains a home for the girls living there.
澳门网站开户送38The key characteristics of Morgan house are kindness, inclusiveness, and love. We think of ourselves as a family in Morgan, and we strive to make sure that every girl feels like she has a loving home. All girls in house are encouraged to help and guide one another, and to take part in house life. Every year at Morgan there is a new team of prefects assigned, who help run the daily aspects of school life, as well preparing for the House Cup events, which are very important to Morgan girls - last year we had two House Cup victories in table football and baking.
Victoria House
澳门网站开户送38Victoria House gained its name from Queen Victoria who ruled Britain for more than 60 years between 1837 and 1901. It was a period of industrial, cultural, political, scientific, and military change within the United Kingdom, and was marked by a great expansion of the British Empire. Queen Victoria, who was responsible for those changes, portrayed lots of monarch qualities that made her a great Queen ever and those qualities could also be seen in the Victoria girls at MCQ. Queen Victoria was a national icon of personal morality, she showed integrity and humility, which could be found from the excellent behaviour of the Victoria girls in both classrooms and school activities. Queen Victoria portrayed ambition, risk-taking and resilience, she exercised great power to achieve her political goals, although this came with extreme dangers like assassinations and attacks, she never gave up her objectives. Victoria girls are also ambitious and resilient in academic field, they work hard and never refuse to take risks. Furthermore, Queen Victoria showed kindness and independence, she supported peace and reconciliation for the good of the people rather than her own interests, and “she was fiercely independent…, she strengthened the monarchy by redefining its role in British life”. The girls are kind and independent, they will help their peers and they are able to face troubles head on. Victoria’s current Head of House in Ms Turner, and Mrs Watts is the Deputy Head.
Elgar House
澳门网站开户送38Elgar House is named after the famous British composer and conductor Sir Edward Elgar. The house has grown and evolved significantly over the past few years to become a well established and fine example of a boarding house that reflects the Malvern Qualities that are embedded in all we do.
Head of House Mr Gill, Deputy Head of House Mr Groucott and Assistant housems Anne Zhang and Sherry Huang are an incredibly dedicated team that create a strict, successful and happy house where students feel part of a family and are extremely proud to carry the honour of being an Elgarian.
Elgar have had a credible track record in House Cup; they are currently chasing their 3rd House cup success in a row and have a formidable force of musicians, singers, actors, sportsmen and cooks that dedicate huge energy to achieving success. Elgar also had a huge focus on behaviour and effort in lessons and were rewarded with a clean sweep of all 3 termly awards. This focus will continue and as in our chant, we always aim to get ‘Better and Better’ every day.
We see ourselves as a well-bonded family that focuses on respect for others and honesty in all that we do. It is our objective to send a group of well rounded, worldly wise and strong minded gentlemen out into the world year on year and are very proud of the alumni we have developed so far. Students never stop being an Elgar boy and we are always excited and proud of our returning students that miss the family and return to tell us of their experiences.
Words-worth House
澳门网站开户送38“Plain living and high thinking” – this quote by William Wordsworth, a British Romantic poet, is an apt description of the in-house culture of Wordsworth House. The house is named after William Wordsworth whose poetic theory has shaken the rule of English classical poetry and promoted the innovation of poetic structure and the development of the Romantic Movement.
The same can be said for the girls of Wordsworth House, a collection of quirky, innovative, intelligent and fun-loving ladies, who regularly display a wealth of creativity and ability. This can not only be observed in their house activities, but also in their conduct and drive in the classroom and on the sports field.
Apart from their individual successes, Wordsworth girls also pride themselves on lending a helping hand where needed. Most of the U6 girls in Wordsworth are school peer mentors and when wandering the corridors during study hall or free time, one will often find groups of girls huddled together over pages of notes or school art projects.
澳门网站开户送38On weekends the house comes alive with laughter and fun, as the girls play silly games, cook, sing, dance or practice sports for upcoming house cup competitions. Wordsworth girls are not outwardly competitive but rather view competitions as an opportunity to make the most of their time at MCQ, collaborating with their peers, building lasting relationships and making memories that will last a lifetime.
The current Head of House for Wordsworth is Ms Williams, with Ms Toohey being the Deputy Head.
Ellerslie House
Ellerslie House is named after a private boarding school for girls founded in Great Malvern in 1922. 70 years later, Ellerslie School merged with Malvern College, becoming its first female House. Ellerslie House was also the first female House at MCQ. The meaning of the name Ellerslie or ‘Elderslie’ possibly refers to 'field of the elder trees’.
澳门网站开户送38Just like the leaves of an Elder tree, the Ellerslie girls protect each other and the Ellerslie house from any harm. The prefect team have created a happy, comfortable house, providing protection for the other girls in the house. They assist the housems in running the house and have ensured that the girls feel part of a large family. The Ellerslie girls are strong and determined to do their best. The girls are full of passion and enthusiasm and remain positive at all times. Every Ellerslie girl has their own individual qualities but all are determined.
澳门网站开户送38The Ellerslie girls are talented in many areas including a number of sports, dancing and singing. They are always willing to help each other, so that they are always improving and will always provide support to each other. House Cup is very important to the girls, so they show a lot of commitment and determination to perform at their very best. The current Head of House is Ms Hsu, and the Deputy Head is Ms Coetzer.
School House
A boarding House named ‘School’ is a traditional aspect among most long-established British boarding schools. It originated from the time boarding schools where still church-based, and student halls were built next to the teaching buildings. It has since become a tradition to name the first student hall ‘School House’ - one of many that has been inherited by MCQ; opened in 2014, It is now home to 68 boys from L4 - U6. Students from School House have a proud tradition of continuing onto academic excellence including top universities such as MIT and UBC.
The house is run by Mr McLaughlin along with his Deputy Mr Kearney. The house staff as a whole are dedicated the core values of MCQ, which they pass on to the students in their care. In School House we are a community, where all staff and students collaborate well, making it possible for good pastoral links to be made and maintained. The School House system is strong and central to all we do; students learn to take responsibility for others and often make the friends they will keep for the rest of their lives. The boarders are encouraged to take part in extra-curricular activities such as sport and drama and regular trips are organised for them at weekends. Like all the Houses, School House comes together in a show of uniformity and sportsmanship every year for the House Cup. The dedicated Heads and Housems know that any student that has been part of School House will leave a well-rounded, global citizen, prepared for life ahead of them, having followed the Malvern ethos and qualities.
Campbell House
澳门网站开户送38Campbell is the newest House at MCQ and is named in memory of Caroline Henry Thomas (Mrs Campbell), a Malvern UK graduate who went on to become a successful lawyer and member of the Queen’s College. Here at MCQ, Campbell House is a family of happy, helpful and caring students who enjoy spending time together. The current Head of House is Mrs Viljoen and the House Deputy is Mrs Crooks. Our girls are dedicated to their school work and support one another in day to day school life, including training for the House Cup this year. We have an excellent group of 6th Form students and prefects who are not only good mentors for their younger peers, but are sure to become inspiring ambassadors of MCQ wherever they go in the future.
We are proud of every one of our Campbell students and are grateful for the help of wonderful House Assistants, who take excellent care of all the Campbell girls.
Aston House
Aston is a new house, which is now well into its second year. The Ethos of the house, currently upheld by its HsM Mr Cradock and DHsM Mr Morris, is based on 3 of the Malvern Values:
澳门网站开户送38Resilience, Open mindedness and Kindness. We expect every boy to try something new, whether that is academically or with the house cup, we expect all boys to work together for their house and for their friends. We expect all boys to show support and kindness to all inside and outside of Aston and when representing the House.
The name Aston derives from an old Malvernian Francis William Aston - a British physicist who invented Mass Spectrometry, engaged in isotope and mass spectrum research over a long period of time, and confirmed the existence of isotope. He won the 1922 Nobel Prize for his discovery of isotopes, and for his enunciation of the whole number rule.
In our inaugural year, the house cup was a brand new experience and we didn't know what to expect. We grew into the competition as the year progressed, and collected some commendable points. This year Aston a fully prepared for the intensity of the competition as well as the support required from the whole house, both in preparation and when competing. We aim to vastly improve on our placing this year, and also to use it to develop our house spirit.
Lewis House
The present House Master of Lewis House is Mr K. Wilson: the Deputy House Master is Mr R. Wade; the main House Assistant is Miss M. Zhang.
Lewis House is named after C.S. Lewis (1898-1963), an alumnus of Malvern College UK and one of the intellectual giants of the twentieth century. He was a Fellow and Tutor in English Literature at Oxford University before being elected to the Chair of Medieval and Renaissance Literature at Cambridge University. He is most famous for his books, especially The Chronicles of Narnia, which, to date, have sold over 100 million copies, and continue to attract thousands of new readers every year.
澳门网站开户送38Lewis House should be a place where on the surface nothing seems to change. The students feel safe, secure and happy, because the routines and daily life of the House seem timeless and never changing. But at the end of their journey, when they leave Lewis House and look back, they see a place which helped make them young men, confident, self-assured, resilient and accepting of others. C.S. Lewis himself best sums up what Lewis House is all about when he said:
澳门网站开户送38‘Isn’t it funny how day by day nothing changes, but when you look back, everything is different.’
MacLaurin House
MacLaurin House is named after Lord Ian Charter MacLaurin, former pupil of Malvern College UK and the former Chairman of the English and Wales Cricket Board. Lord MacLaurin has had a life long association with MCUK.
MacLaurin House opened its doors to the first students in 2016. Whilst being a relatively young House, the boys are passionate and loyal towards the House; they want to be here and they want to excel in all that they do. The challenge for all of us is to get the boys to channel their energy in the right direction, to respect and celebrate each other’s differences, to develop strong friendships and to become well-rounded individuals who are honourable, humble, show integrity and are always willing to serve others.
澳门网站开户送38The House grows stronger each year and this is largely down to the leadership shown by the senior boys in the house. The Head and Deputy Head Boys, along with their team of prefects, strive to push the House forward and doing an excellent job at growing the House culture.
澳门网站开户送38MacLaurin strives to be the House of gentleman. When I walk around the House I feel a great sense of pride in the young men growing up around me. MacLaurin House – the “Green Machine” is a special place and it has a lot to look forward to.
The current Head of House is Mr Catto, and the Deputy Head is Mr Kobtzeff.
